Sam does Tolkien

As we were reading The Hobbit at story time, I told the boys that Bilbo Baggins probably would have been diagnosed with Obsessive/Compulsive Disorder. I was very disapppointed with them for not knowing what that meant. So, I explained that Bilbo is a "clean freak" and has everything lined up and in order. All the kids were laughing when some of Bilbo's friends visited and teased about trashing his house.

We found out after we finished the book, that Sam had gone back and memorized this poem. He walks around the house saying it in words higher than the human ear can hear.

Here is the poem in case you can't understand it.

Chip the glasses and crack the plates!
Blunt the knives and bend the forks!
That’s what Bilbo Baggins hates –
Smash the bottles and burn the corks!

Cut the cloth and tread on the fat!
Pour the milk on the pantry floor!
Leave the bones on the bedroom mat!
Splash the wine on every door!

Dump the crocks in a boiling bowl;
Pound them up with a thumping pole;
And when you’ve finished, if any are whole,
Send them down the hall to roll!

That’s what Bilbo Baggins hates!
So, carefully! Carefully with the plates!
